I do not often simply pass on a quotation from another blog, but today Thinkprogress posts one so beautiful, so perfect that I had to pass it on. With all the whining going on in Washington because the Democrats are challenging President Bush for a timetable to exit Iraq, these words are simply too ironic to be true:
“I cannot support a failed foreign policy. … President Clinton has never explained to the American people why he was involving the US military in a civil war in a sovereign nation, other than to say it is for humanitarian reasons, a new military-foreign policy precedent. Was it worth it to stay in Vietnam to save face? What good has been accomplished so far? Absolutely nothing.” — Republican leader Tom DeLay on the House floor in April 1999, when US troops were a month into their three-month mission in Kosovo
A word comes to mind . . . . what is it . . . . hippocampus? No, hippopotamus? No . . . oh, I have it! HYPOCRITE! I don't care what side of the aisle you are on, you have to admit that in the past the Republicans have been guilty of the same things the Democrats are now being called un-American for doing. And here is the proof.
