Today, my thoughts and prayers reside in the town of Blacksburg.
I am a graduate of the University of Virginia. Virginia Tech was our in-state rival. UVa was the Commonwealth's upper-class school, Tech the blue collar institution. We were liberal arts, chemistry, and constitutional law; they were applied sciences, chemical engineering, and agribusiness. I think what made the rivalry work was that with all the country put-downs we applied to this applied-arts school, we knew Tech was a quality school. Unlike North Carolina and Duke.
Nobody deserves what happened there yesterday, but least of all a well-run school that provides the Commonwealth with most of its engineers and enviromental scientists.
I know you will survive.
